Looking for a structured, engaging martial arts program that builds discipline, confidence, and physical strength? The Brad Akins YMCA Martial Arts Program offers Jiu-Jitsu-based training for youth, teens, and adults, blending mindfulness, self-defense, and full-body fitness. Whether you're just beginning or looking to advance your skills, our program welcomes all experience levels in a supportive, family-focused setting.
Our program meets monthly and follows a rotating schedule, skipping major holidays. Led by experienced instructors, classes focus on belt progression, self-discipline, technique, and real-world self-defense.
Youth Martial Arts (Ages 7–12)
Mondays and Wednesdays | 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM
Teen & Adult Martial Arts (Ages 13+)
Mondays and Wednesdays | 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM
Youth Rates (Ages 7–12): YMCA Members: $9 per class | Non-Members: $12 per class (register for entire month)
Ages 13+ & Adults: FREE with Membership
First session: Comfortable athletic clothing
Ongoing sessions require a martial arts uniform (gi) and protective gear

Protective Gear: $60
Belt Progression Fee: $10
No shoes allowed on the mat (socks optional)
Please remove jewelry and tie back long hair
Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated
While we do not compete in official tournaments, students participate in demonstrations during YMCA events, showcasing the skills they’ve developed throughout the session.

Q: When is the next session?
A: Sessions meet monthly starting with the first Monday or first Wednesday of each month.
Q: What should the participant wear?
A: If this is your first session and you are trying to decide if this is the sport for you, athletic clothes are fine. The participants do not wear shoes so they may want socks.
Q: Are there additional fees?
A: If you choose to continue in the program, we ask that you purchase a uniform and protective gear directly from the Sensei. Plus, as your student progresses and earns new belts, there will be a fee to celebrate their achievement with the next level belt.

Q: Do we compete in competitions?
A: Not at this time, however, we will be putting on demonstrations at YMCA events.
